The need for blood is paramount and universal. The Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) is an essential part of the modern health care system, without which medical care is impossible (Pal, Kar, Zaman, & Pal, 2011). There is a huge inequity in the availability of blood within countries, with urban areas having more access to most of the blood available.

In order to ensure universal access to safe and quality blood and achieve 100% voluntary blood donation, innovative and result-oriented strategies are essential. It is also imperative to optimize blood usage, develop systems in the supply chain, strengthen the workforce, adopt new developments, and build effective partnerships.
